Tom et al,

I too picked one of these up, and ended up having a blast from about 9pm til
10:30 that night.
If memery serves, one of the features is satellite tracking, as well as
comets, asteroids, and more deep sky stuff than you could reasonably observe
with a scope of this size. (OK, maybe in DARK skies...) The Autostar unit
is upgradable via the internet, though I'm not familiar with the process.
With this, I'm reasonably sure that sat. tracking is possible. I'll check
tonite and post if the answer doesn't turn up beforehand.

Other things, it has a pretty wide FOV (25mm fit Gamma and Beta Lyra in the
FOV), and even looking at the post first quarter moon and mars did not show
any coloration. For $100, it's a steal. Heck, even if you don't care for
the electronics, what would you pay for a short tube 60mm guide scope? The
EP's are Meade's new version of the MAs, featuring much better eye relief
than the ones of recent past.

Last note...I think the reason that Joe and myself had so much fun with it
is that we know the sky already. I'm not sure how a stark beginner would
fare without outside help. (Alula Australous? Sulafat? Rotanev? Scheat? Is
this thing speaking Russian?) Also, even a cheapo 1x finder would be a HUGE
help.

$100? Well worth it I think.
