[AZ-Observing] Billboard Hearing Postponed

The Public Hearing before the Tucson Mayor and Council on the electronic
billboard ordinance that was scheduled for June 9 has been rescheduled for June
23. It will again be at 7:30 in the evening, but there will likely be many
additional agenda items.
Also, nothing has changed in the State Legislature regarding SB 1138. Almost
all the attention is on the budget, but a few other bills are starting to get
some attention. One more communication from a senator again suggested SB 1138
was dead for the session.
Please do continue to contact Tucson Mayor and Council in favor of the
electronic billboard ordinance. This ordinance would expressly prohibit
"tri-vision" rotating panels and electronic displays. These features are
currently prohibited through an interpretation of the code that considers them
an impermissible alteration of a nonconforming use. It is far better, however,
for the code to come right out and say that, rather than risk having the
interpretations challenged through lengthy legal proceedings.
