"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on." - Robert Frost
As does Archventures. And while the going has gotten tough at times, it appears that the latest iteration of our working model more-or-less works. Over the past months we've morphed into three distinct groups; with Group One becoming a design-build studio, Group Two our research and development arm, and Group Three the hub of governance and operations. Now, this complex tri-partite composition, or three-ring circus if you will, is balanced on the shoulders of the newly minted Archventures Fellowship. But what is this Fellowship exactly? And how will this 1-2-3 model sustain itself?

June 17: A strategic pause for tea and animated conversation
In the fall of 2005 a small group of Archventurers gathered for a T Party - a daylong strategic session that resulted in a more focused Archventures. The event got its name from the venue – Boston's Back Bay T Station (subway) - and because it culminated with a social mixer, silent auction, and tea. We've since decided to turn it into a semiannual happening, and you're cordially invited to join us on June 17 for the sequel.
We'll assemble at 10am for a governance group session, at 12pm we'll transition into a lunchtime presentation and strategic thinking extravaganza, and at 3pm we'll change gears again for informal conversation and tea till the wee hours of the afternoon. There will be some required background reading, but otherwise all you need to do is sign up at staff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and show up.

Thanks – to our Griffin House project counsel of wise sages
A tremendous thanks is due to our consultants Matthew Barsotelli, a Weidlinger Associates engineer; Bill Hamlen, a construction manager with Skanska USA; David Gosselin, a land surveyor and owner of David Gosselin & Associates; Scott Roe, a landscape designer with Payette; Paula Buick, a healthcare specialist also with Payette; and especially to Hubert Murray, the architect behind Murray Studio, and upcoming president of the Boston Society of Architects.
Through inspired mentorship, good humor, and rolled-up-shirt-sleeve consultancy they've gracefully guided our Griffin House project volunteers through a strenuous first stretch of planning, and have helped them reach the final stages of the design process.

Green Shed? Kai thinks its palletable.
Kai says it's a sound architectural solution, making a shed out of shipping pallets and recycled materials. Kai should know. He and ReJon are graduates of a Boston Society of Architects "Learning By Design" program, and now - at 14 and 15 respectively - are key members of a five person Archventures team that is designing to build a new shed for the Hawthorne Youth and Community Center. With the existing structure in a state of near collapse, the Green Shed replacement aims to provide much needed storage space and a fun educational experience for all those involved.
To lend a hand during the June shed-raising, write Aaron Willette, the project's manager and pallet fabricator extraordinaire, at willettea@xxxxxxxx
