Thank you, Dr. Zeiss for sharing this good news that Dr. Peter Tuerk received the Olin E. Teague Award for his innovative work and publications re evidence based PTSD treatments. Good to hear that the value was recognized of Dr. Tuerk's innovative work utilizing the telemental health technology which is available for treatment of veterans and offers cost and time saving advantages by eliminating the need of travel for both the veteran and the psychologist. In the future, psychologists may likely see added value in offering more telemental health work, particularly in evidenced based PTSD treatments. Subject: [AVAPL Members] Important Award for a Psychologist I hope everyone saw this morning's daily message: HEY VA! HAVE YOU HEARD? Dr. Peter Tuerk, clinical psychologist at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, S.C., is winner of the 30th annual Olin E. Teague Award, recognizing the VA employee or employee team whose achievements have been extraordinarily beneficial to the rehabilitation of war-injured veterans. Tuerk was the first clinician in the country to offer evidence-based treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) via telehealth technology. In addition, Tuerk's publications demonstrate that veterans with PTSD can recover with effective in-home exposure therapy treatment. Tuerk volunteers his time as a national and regional PTSD mentor, working to introduce evidence-based PTSD treatments and solve problems throughout the VA system. He receives the prestigious Teague Award at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC today. The award is named after Olin E. Teague, a disabled veteran of World War II who championed veterans' programs during a long Congressional career during which he served as chairman of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs. I will proudly be at the ceremony today, and I congratulate Dr. Tuerk enthusiastically. This comes at an interesting time, as this group debates how to define the "added value" of Psychology. Dr. Tuerk has demonstrated this value clearly and it is wonderful that he is being recognized with this wonderful award.
