Besyner's plan?

Hi Wayne,

I’m mid-ABPP process and spoke to Jim last week as he was trying to configure
the team that will review my written materials and conduct my oral exam should
I pass the written part. He’d inquired about whether I could potentially meet
on 4/8 for the oral exam during the weekend of the annual ABCP meeting. I told
him I couldn’t do that date because my due date (I’m pregnant) is 4/12, to
which he chuckled and agreed to try to find another group to review my
materials so I could have the oral exam in March, May or June. I’m not sure how
much further he’d gotten with that.

Sarah Spain (another psychologist here and friend of mine midway through the
process) spoke to him last week also and said she got the sense that she’d be
working with the ABCP 4/8 group of evaluators so I think that date/group was
fairly settled for her.

Hope these nuggets of info help in picking up where Jim left off.

Subject: [AVAPL Members] ABPP Oral Exams: Following through on Jim Besyner's
plan?

As many have noted in their responses to Jim Besyer’s death, he served on the
Board of Trustees of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP),
representing Clinical Psychology. Fostering board certification, particularly
among VA psychology was one of Jim’s passions.

A month or two back, Jim sent an email to the AVAPL mail group asking those who
hold and ABPP in Clinical Psychology if they were going to be at the 2011 VA
Psychology leadership Conference in San Antonio. He was trying to arrange oral
examinations for VA psychologists applying for board certification. I am not
sure how far Jim got in this process but I thought it would be a nice tribute
to try to follow through on his plan.

Please respond back channel to me if you hold ABPP in Clinical Psychology and
are planning to attend the VA Psychology leadership Conference in San Antonio
May 18-21. I am also interested in hearing from anyone that may have
information on what Jim may have been planning and any progress that he may
have made. If this plan still seems feasible, I will contact the ABPP Executive
Committee to see what the next step might be.

Thanks,

Wayne
