The Tainted by Lieutenant Commander Anthony Manson and The Shadow There was a lasting smile on Anthony, and he realized he didn't mind it. He wasn't a smiler, but after lunch with Elissabeth, and that constant replay in his head, he smiled even more. After a few moments he was in the turbolift, and he found himself touching the band on his finger. The turbolift shuddered to a halt soon after leaving the floor Anthony was on. The lights flickered, sputtered, and then ceased to function. In a blink of an eye, an ominous figure arrived in the turbolift. "Touching. You and the boy are finally going to become a family. Precious, to be sure. Are you ready for your final instructions?" The voice seemed omnipotent, but was quite real. All that positive attitude drained away as fast as they came in the beginning. "Yeah, I'm sure you wont need an invitation to the wedding. What are your instructions?" Anthony had blurted the previous comment as an afterthought, and he wished he kept his mouth shut for it. "I know that I said I'd tell you what to do, but I think that it would be better if you did it your own way." "Excuse me?" Anthony blinked, "I'm not an agent. And I wouldn't know where to start. Apparently you, or whomever, have changed the codes on this ship. You remember that jolt I got from the holodeck console. Certainly wasn't self inflicted." Anthony didn't see it coming. The man behind him slammed his face into the wall of the turbolift and bent his left arm behind his back. "I'll make you a deal. You get rid of Javan in any, and I mean anyway possible, and you can have your ring back." Just like that, the Shadow pried the wedding band from the Lieutenant Commander's hand. Anthony's right elbow came into contact with the man's ribs. The shadow let his grip go, and Anthony swung out, getting his fist in contact with the shadow's face. "That ring, back. Now." "Tedious," the man said from the floor. Lashing out, the Shadow kicked in Anthony's right knee and then followed it up with a knee to the man's face. Getting to his feet and resting against the wall of the turbolift, his words echoed as if penetrating a smile, "Kill Javan and you will have it back. Consider it, collateral." "No. The ring first," Anthony got up with a strain to his knee. "I take it," he coughed out, "this is 'beating' is for the Rydyn Delegation? Last I heard, they were only 'considered.' Not good enough?" Anthony rushed, feeling his knee give out as he tried for a kick the shadow's midsection. The Shadow side-stepped. "That doesn't matter now - matters are being taken to ensure that the situation is...taken care of." The man pushed Anthony into the floor and placed a knee into his spine, "You're going to do this, or you kiss the ring goodbye. Dispose of the illustrious Commander and you'll get it back. Understand?" He felt the pressure as the shadow's foot pressed down. "Ring.. first." "You're not in any positions to make demands." "I'm in every position to. You need me to dispose of Sierra." He felt the pressure let off and Anthony pushed up, only to roll to one side away from his enemy. He stood up, though the effort was more than he realized. "No more games, just the ring. That's all Im asking for." There was a sigh, but not of defeat, "All right. If he's not disposed of, I'll take the rings from both you and Alder - while they're still on the finger. Do you understand me?" "Oh, right. You mean every word," Anthony said sarcastically. The Shadow tossed the ring at him. Anthony reached for it, but never caught it. A swinging fist caught him straight in the center of the face. The man's blood oozed from his nose as he hit the turbolift wall and slid, unconsciously, to the floor. The ring fell to the floor, chiming silently as the carpet rushed up to meet it. He smiled, "Computer, restore power and resume turbolift." The doors opened an a passing ensign stood in complete shock. "Uh..." Alder turned around, noticing Anthony's limp body. He rushed over tapping his combadge, "medical emergency on deck one." __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
