The Night View

by Ens. Anthony Manson

The trees swayed back and forth in a cool wind that swept through the
landscape. It was peaceful, a certain type of peace that one could actually
smile in it?s silence, content to having it as it was. Just by the look of it,
a person would see why such a beauty was to be marveled and treasured. It was
night time, and the moon gave way to the only source of light in the darkness.
It reflect of the lake at the center where it shimmered in ripples as it moved
in it?s liquid form. Up above, you?d see the moon- perfect in it?s shape and
illuminance, but it seemed as though it was more attractive as it was reflected
by the waters.

Anthony smiled, this was better then he had expected. Better then he thought he
could re-create from the image of his mind into what seem to be almost
tangible. It wasn?t done yet, and Anthony was surprise that he manage to
actually find the inspiration or even the time to do this. He knew better of
course, that it wasn?t the time he didn?t have- it was his excuses. He also
realized as he entered the holodeck that the only reason that furthered his
cause to making this place was he new...friend.

Friendship, strange stuff, he thought. One couldn?t say he was being
purposefully alien to the concept. It was just the fact that he didn?t have any
friends. Until, of course, this one person came out to him, and next thing you
knew, Anthony was in the midst of socializing. That itself put Anthony to a
test he never thought he?d go through. Fate proved him wrong, letting it be
known that this wasn?t going to be the last.

Anthony?s smile had widened a little. Nothing of course, that he would do in
front of people he barely knew, or knew not at all. He made a friend, how
terribly social of him. He saw none of his new found friends today, except
Alder, who seem to be the only one that took some sort of initiative to be
there. That was strange for Anthony, he was starting to wonder if this was what
friendship was- to have someone there for you and such, and constantly inviting
him to their social calls; or was he just looking at it too hard?

Alder had mentioned something about a card game in the near future. Before
Anthony could get out of his station- since Alder was there for the next shift-
he had manage to get Anthony to joining the game. That was the second time he
manage to get Anthony out of his own routine- no matter how boring
or..well...boring it was. He agreed to it, and it seem to bring a bright smile
to Alder just before he was shooed off.

Anthony then took the opportunity to come to the holodeck. He looked up, as he
was sitting in the blades of grass that was gentle and sometimes tickling the
skin if he didn?t sit just so. Night time was indeed the better of the scenery
before him. It was relaxing, and tranquil. There was no eerie silence to make a
person uncomfortable. Instead, it was placed with the soft whispers of the
wind, the quiet ripples or the water, and even mini noises that only nocturnal
creatures made to let everyone know of their presence.

"Computer, increase the temperature from sixty-eight to seventy two. Humidity
at twenty five percent, and decrease the wind." In an instant, the computer
fixed Anthony?s request, and immediately he felt the change in temperature. It
was too stuffy for his liking, and had the computer decrease the humidity to
fifteen percent.

He looked around again, and then ran of another series of commands, "Computer,
decrease the number of trees by ten percent, and have some light clouds
around." The computer worked it?s magic again, and the dark skies had clouds as
it?s new residents, the trees decreased in number also and the back that looked
dark as it viewed into infinity. Anthony made a note to expand it some more
later, for now this was good.

He laid in the grass and looked into the skies where the lights twinkled and
the moon lighting the area. This was relaxing, this was what he liked, and it
seem too perfect to be true.

His thoughts went back to his friend, Alder.

Yeah, friendship. Strange stuff.
