"Of Blue and Red"
by Lieutenant
Commander Javan Sierra
& Ensign Caine Reilly McKinsely
It had been a tiresome day to say the least.
He'd gone to the Allegiance and witnessed one of his own crew
members, which he'd identified as Karg, get assaulted with extreme
prejudice and brutality. It nagged at the back of his thoughts even
as he set out to accomplish and handle other things. Something was
over there that was more powerful than he thought.
The new
counselor, who he'd still yet to meet, had called him to transfer the
codes from the old counselor. Javan was beginning to have problems
keeping all the chiefs straight. Moreya had been transferred out and
the new counselor was no longer the new counselor, but the new Chief
Medical Officer. From now on he wouldn't care, Javan thought, he'd
do his job to the best of his abilities and if new people came he'd
treat them with the same respect he did everyone else.
Caine
leaned against the wall outside of her office, waiting for Lieutenant
Commander Javan to come and give her to security codes. Sighing
heavily she put her bag on the floor and took her hair out of the
ponytail she had put it in earlier. Running her fingers through her
hair, she massaged her head slightly. She could feel the pressure
building up all day and she was trying to fight off the headache. It
wasn't that she was frustrated about anything; it was just that she
was very nervous about her new position. Here she was, just an
Ensign, and she was counselor of the USS Avalon, she would have to be
counseling people older and much mature then herself.
That in
it's self was a scary thought, but then to think that she would
actually be counseling the captain, now that was a fearful thought.
What if she messed up, and didn't really help anyone, and instead
screwed everything up.
Javan saw the blonde bombshell leaning
against the bulkhead with a somewhat seductive pouting look on her
face. He straightened his stance and continued on towards her,
drawing her eyes to his. He reached out with his hand towards her
and smiled that trademark smile he'd perfected over the years.
"Lieutenant Commander Javan Sierra. How may I be of
service?"
Caine looked up at the strikingly handsome man
coming towards her. His voice was deep and velvety, it just poured
over her. Caine was slightly breathless, "Hello, sir. I'm Ensign
Caine Reilly McKinsely, the new counselor, but you may just call me
Caine." Caine took his offered hand and shook it. "I'm hoping that
you have the codes to my room, so that I might enter."
"Oh, I
apologize." Javan pulled a PADD out of his back pocket and tapped on
it, his eyes gazing up at the woman over the top of the device. He
smirked and shook his head, sensing a plethora of emotions coming
from her, but paid no notice. "Lieutenant Felicity Roan - the new
Chief Medical Officer - and I recently locked it because the
technology inside of it is to be sent back to Starfleet. I forgot to
change it over."
Caine nodded, "Which is understandable."
While he was looking at his PADD, Caine took the opportunity to look
him over better. She let her eyes travel up his body, admiring his
lean and toned form. He looked strong and very masculine.
She
sucked in her breath when her eyes looked at his, which were still
focused on the PADD in his hand. They were amazing eyes, dark and
mysterious; the kind of eyes that any woman would let seduce her.
Caine blushed furiously at that thought, she could not believe she
was having such thoughts about a man she had just met, not to mention
a commanding officer. Caine turned her head away from him, hoping he
wouldn't see her blush.
Of course he saw it. He was a little
more observant and aware of his surroundings than that. Shielding
his smile from sight with the PADD he looked at the door. "Computer,
override security protocols for this door. Sierra Epsilon Theta Nine
Alpha. Override Roan authorization and release all
restrictions."
Beeping in acknowledgment the computer released
whatever security procedures had been instilled upon it. The door
hissed open with the usual pizzazz and Javan walked into the office.
The waiting room was drab and boring with nothing but a potted plant
and an uninviting picture on the wall. He marched past the
receptionist's desk and into the interrogation room.
The
silver contraption stood like a citadel in the center of the room.
Nothing around it compared to the design, the intimidation, or the
hostility that he felt from it. The Lieutenant Commander could only
vaguely sense the horrible atrocities that these machines had caused.
It would've been overwhelming if he hadn't seen far worse other
places. "Your domain is open, Ensign, I'm glad I could be of
help."
Cringing at how boring and plain the waiting room was,
Caine followed Javan in. vI'm going to have to paint this room
another color, and some good art, it's too drab, she thought to
herself. Caine watched Javan walk into another room, admiring view,
What is wrong with me today? She shook her head to relieve it
from her thoughts.
Caine walked into the room behind Javan
and stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of the horrid monstrosity
in the middle of the room. "What the hell is that?!" she said. "I
am not having that in here. It's just wrong." Caine was very upset
at the site of the torture chair in her interrogation room.
He
cocked his head at her. "You are an interrogation specialist, are
you not?"
"Well, yes, but I do not use such things," she said
with disdain as she stared it. "I use hypnosis, not actual torture,
I can't inflict pain on someone else."
"Admirable." He
frowned internally at what he'd done in his life and what he vowed
never to do again, "There aren't many people in Starfleet
Intelligence that think like you - that I know anyway."
He
was already suspicious.
"So, how are you acclimating to life
on the Avalon?"
Finally tearing her eyes from the torture
machine, Caine was met with Javan's eyes. Again she was taken aback
be the power she saw in them. "I don't think of myself as admirable,
I'm just a girl who can not deal out pain to anyone." Walking from
the room, Caine went to look at her office. "As for life here on the
Avalon, I will tell you how I?m handling it, once I've been on for
awhile. But I can tall you this, I already miss my family." Caine
ran her hand over the sofa material, making a mental note to have it
changed as well.
He smiled again and leaned against the
doorjamb and folded his arms. "How would you like to join me for
dinner tonight? If I'm not being too blunt. And the Avalon is
equipped with an awesome function that allows you to make your
quarters anything you want - each room is enabled with holo-emitters.
I could show you some designs I like."
"I would love to join
you for dinner. I don't know anyone on the ship yet, and to be
honest, I'm more then a little nervous about meeting them." Caine
smiled at him, and felt her cheeks grew slightly warm again, as
another blush came on.
What is wrong with me? He's just a man,
granted a very sexy man, but still just a man. Get a grip on
yourself girl, Caine thought.
"I, uh, I was actually
thinking of painting the room myself, maybe doing it in blues or
greens, and getting new furniture. But can the holo-emitters put up
new pictures? I would love to have some great ocean
scenes."
"Are you interrogating them, Ensign, or getting them
tea and crumpets?" He joked as he shifted his weight and walked
towards the door. She was beautiful and he knew she knew it. She
did have an aura about her that he figured allured a lot of men. "I
actually think a red would be more tasteful. Forest and mountains as
the pictures."
Caine giggled slightly and smiled brightly at
the Commander's joke. "I didn't mean for interrogation. I meant for
when I'm actually counseling people. Though, when doing hypnosis,
deep and soothing colors are the best, helps the person to slide
under earlier." Shrugging, she smiled a bit shyly. "Red does sound
good. Like a deep maroon or such like that, and I do like your idea
of the forest and mountains. I will take it into consideration,
thank you."
"Any time," Javan paused for a moment, "Caine.
I'll pick you up at your quarters around nineteen hundred
hours?"
"Yes, sir. I'll be ready then," Caine nodded and her
eyes sparkled happily at the thought of dinner with this man.
"What's your favorite type of food?" He watched the question
register and he watched her think - with his mind. As her mouth
parted and as she took a breath to talk, Javan intervened. "Italian
food or Seafood. Got it. I'll see you in a couple of hours.
Remember, at your quarters." With that he turned on his heel, smiled
internally, and marched into the hallway. The door hissed again and
he was gone.
She stood there, opened mouth,
He read my
mind. Oh damn! What if he was reading it this whole time?
Flopping down on the sofa, Caine covered her face with her arm.
He probably knows my thoughts weren't very professional towards
him. Groaning Caine stood up, knowing she still had to unpack
and get ready for tonight. As Caine took one last look at her new
office and headed to her quarters to finish unpacking, she wondered
to herself if tonight was a date or a business dinner.
