Learning to Live
by
El-Kainah Ngaio

And now the continuation....

El-Kainah had been so distracted by the digging for the roots he
hadn't heard any one coming up behind him and the next thing he knew he was
being
drug behind the men's dorm by three Nikaari. The Nikaari beat on him until he
was nearly unconscious from the pain. But it was only to get worse. The man
he had attacked on the transport stepped forward and slapped him across the
face, saying "That is for attacking me before." He repeated the blow. "That
is
for trespassing." He did it again. "And that is for refusing to join the
Nikaari." He chuckled. "You have one more chance to give your mother to me
though. I am in need of pleasure and she looks like she would be quite
pleasurable." He and his friends laughed.
El-Kainah spit in his face and struggled against the two men holding
his arms. The men each let go and punched him in the stomach doubling El over
again. The man wiped his face and leaned closer to El's ear. "All right,
since you won't give me your mother. We will just take you." And with that El
found himself thrown over a crate. His face towards a wall and the two men
holding him had him stretched out so his arms were at a ninety degree angle to
his body. They then lifted his arms up so he was force to put his chest
against
the crate. He tried to struggle against their restraints but it was to no
avail.
He shrieked when his attacker ripped El's pants from him with a make
shift knife. "NO!" He struggled harder but it was to no avail. He tried to
reach out telepathically for help but he was having trouble concentrating
because of the fear. He shrieked again "NO!", when he felt him come up behind
him.

"Hold him still." His attacker growled at his accomplices, as he
kicked apart El's legs. He reached up and slapped the back of El's head when
he
closed his legs immediately. "Boy you better stop it." El again struggled
vainly against his attackers. All the while shrieking hoping someone would
hear.
It was when he felt the man enter him that he shrieked the loudest though,
and his attacker covered his mouth with his hand. As the man pumped into his
victim he grunted saying. "You bite me boy and you will regret it. This is
just
one time. You bite me and we will come for you every day."
El struggled but it seemed to not affect anything that was happening.
He kept trying to reach out with his mind to any one near no matter who they
were or how close by, but it was in vain. When the first man finished he
traded places with the one holding his right arm and he took his turn. When he
finished again he traded places this time with the one holding his right arm.
And when he finished taking his pleasure on the poor boy, he took El's left arm
and the first one went again. When they had finished they left the boy in a
bloodied heap on the ground. His tattered clothes next to him. That his how
the building guards found him when they did their patrol, hours later.
El-Kainah woke in the hospital ward of the Woman and Children's dorm,
his mother at his side. She stroked his head when she saw his eyes open.
"You had me worried El." She winced in pain as another contraction hit. They
were becoming more frequent. She had gone into labor when she retuned to the
dorm and the guards had informed her that El-Kainah was in hospital after being
attacked by three men in Nikaari. She hadn't yet informed the doctors of what
was happening even though she was worried.
El had seen the wince and sensed what was going on. He stealthily
pressed the call alarm and two nurses came running in. "Are you all right,
El-Kainah?" his mother asked at the appearance of the two nurses.
"I am fine, Mom." He said to her before turning to the nurses. "But
she is in pain. It seems to come and go." She smiled a small smile at him,
telling him telepathically Good boy. You have picked up much in your studies.

He shook his head and answered her. You are just in that much pain.
It doesn't take a strong telepath to figure that out. Showing her just how
much he had learned. He smiled weakly at her, as the nurses got to work.
It took several hours but they were able to stop the contractions and
her pregnancy continued for a few more weeks. But the conditions at the camp
were harsh and eventually the contractions started and were unable to be
stopped. She delivered Andropo's child three months early. A girl, that would
be
named for Andropo's mother, Kelaria.

El-Kainah stood in his quarters on Deck 5 of the USS Avalon. He
looked around them and frowned. There wasn't much there. In fact even an
ancient
Spartan would have considered the quarters to be...well spartan. He had
already unpacked the one box that had been beamed aboard with him. His
uniforms
were hung neatly in a closet. He attached a hook to a wall where he had hung
his lab coat. And at his workstation there sat a single image. It was taken
of
he and his family at his graduation from Starfleet Medical a few short weeks
ago. He smiled at the image of his mother, Xethia, his father Andropo who had
somehow managed to survive the Breen invasion and his sister Kelaria, now six
years old.
He wondered at the strange turn of events that had lead him to this
place. A medical resident assigned to both the Forensic Team as well as the
Medical team aboard this ship. When not that long ago, in the grand scheme of
things, he had been trying to survive on his own. Now he had a new life, and
it
was time to start living it.
