Yes, I'm with you there Steve-O. If it ain't a windowing environment then there's no point in insisting on WIMP terminology. In fact, in between posting witty and trenchant gems to various news groups, I'm actually writing some training material for a machine control interface, and guess what? I had to settle for using "screen" to refer to the stuff that's displayed on the-- um--screen, because there's really no better alternative. Screen and window become effectively the same thing, because there's only one "window" at a time, so there's no need to distinguish. KISS in action.
