Hawking (what a great present participle!) has indeed shown that energy is
emitted by black holes but probably not within the spectrum visible to
Peter Martin. In fact pulsars are thought to be black holes that emit
radiation from their poles. Just don't get me started on quasars, pizzars,
and qantars ...
