Actually, I just figured it out (I guess I had to try hard, find
nothing, then send out the email before I could work it out). It goes
like this:

There are templates in the <User>\Documents and Settings folder, but
Excel doesn't pick them up from there, it uses the templates in the
XLSTART folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\XLSTART on my
machine).

Sheet.xlt is only invoked when you add a sheet to a workbook. If you
want Excel to open up with your settings, they have to go into Book.xlt.

I'm glad to finally figure that out - it drives me nuts when everything
automatically aligns at the bottom of a row, and now I've fixed it!

Is there a templates folder under Documents and Settings with your user
name? Try that

Hi all

I don't seem to be able to get my Excel template working - I have
Sheet.xlt in my Templates folder, and have also put it into my XLSTART
folder, but it doesn't seem to take.

The Help is not very helpful - has anyone experienced this before, or
have any suggestions?

It's Excel 2003 SP2, on XP 2002 SP2.
