I'm not sure how to check the DPI. I just capture a screen, crop it and paste
it into PowerPoint. I'd like to learn if anyone can tell me - I am very
graphics naïve.

I have resolved the problem for now by printing to the PDF printer and making a
file instead of using the Convert to PDF option on the menu - seems to have
worked perfectly!

Check the resolution of the graphics you have loaded. Need to be at least 150
dpi for decent printout.
