You know it's become too low when you decide not to accept it,
either because you can do better elsewhere or because you'd
rather not work than work for that rate.

Bruce, you seem to be treating TWs and TW jobs as commodities--
we can all pretty much do the same jobs, it's just that some
of us are willing to work for much less, which drags down the
rate for the rest of us.

I don't think that's the case. There are jobs that don't require
advanced skills and that clients aren't prepared to pay much for.
They can be done by less-experienced TWers and that's a good
thing, because otherwise how would any of us get our start?
Experienced TWs with specialist skills aren't in that market so
it doesn't really affect us.

Let's move on from the real estate analogy to the beer analogy:

Some people want to drink a tasty beer. Some people want to
drink urine-coloured soda water. If you're happy to have
Hahn Premium Light you won't want to pay more than $20 per
carton for your beer. If you feel like a Gage Roads Lager,
the price of Hahn Premium Light is of no interest, whether
it's $20 or $2 per carton.

The problem with the ad that sparked this thread is that it
described a tasty beer brewed with care by experts, then
said they were prepared to pay $20 per carton. We all feel
that way, but it's still a bad ad because it doesn't tell us
which part of the description is fantasy--the rate or the
requirements.

Does this survey not make any distinction between junior and senior
positions?

Why not take another job that will pay you the salary you deserve?

Cheers

Stuart
