I am the Manager of Gemcom Software's Technical Communication Department, and
am looking for two writers to join our team. Ideally, we would like to fill
one position in Perth, and one in Brisbane.

About the Position
Reporting to the Technical Communications Manager, you will be part of a team
of five professional technical writers responsible for the production and
documentation of help systems, tutorials, and training guides for Gemcom's
software products.
Key Result Areas
Research
* Effectively interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to obtain
information.
* Understand moderately complex information from SMEs, existing
documentation, and training courses.
* Quickly learn Gemcom software products and related mining practices.
Writing
* Produce writing which clearly, concisely, and correctly conveys
moderately complex information at a level which is suitable for a given
audience and context.
* Effectively organise information across multiple topics.
* Produce writing which is grammatically correct.
* Produce topics which can be reused in help systems as well as in
tutorials and training guides.
Editorial Reviews
* Identify missing definitions of important technical terms, key
questions that are unanswered, superfluous words, incorrect grammar, deviations
from style guides, inconsistent writing practices, and poor information
organisation.
* Provide constructive feedback to others which explains what was
incorrect, why it was incorrect, and examples of how to improve the writing.
Product Delivery
* Learn and effectively use all tools used to produce end products with
minimal assistance.
* Solve problems in HTML, XML, and CSS code with minimal assistance.
* Modify automated systems for producing end products.
Qualifications and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in English, Mathematics, Mining Engineering,
Geology, or Surveying
* 1-3 years of experience writing technical documents for help systems,
tutorials, or training guides.
* Tertiary or Postgraduate Degree in Technical Writing (desirable)
* Experience with one or more of Gemcom's software products. (desirable)
* Experience as a surveyor, mining engineer, geologist, or metallurgist
(desirable)
