www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/index.html has a numbering tab full of stuff,
including a tech writer unfriendly but ne'er the less useful for you
solution. Essentially you use level 1 as white 1 pt and it is your restart
point. Level 2 appears to be your level 1 and always restarts properly, who
cares what level is reading as its white 1 pt :-)

The trials of Word numbering - only for the gurus.=20
My problem is that I am trying to apply a template over existing documents.=
Numbering, particularly outline numbering goes potty. I have been readin=
g up on this on the web, and cannot see how to make this reliable given the=
inanities of outline numbering.
At the moment I am resorting to applying the template, fixing the heading n=
umbering in the document and switching off Automatically Update Document St=
yles. I have not found a way of making the Outline Galleries between the t=
emplate and the document match so that Automatically Update Document Styles=
doesn't apply whatever formatting it wants over the styles in the document.
Advice please - I am TRYING to make these templates idiot proof but the cli=
ent wants numbering, and I want them to be applied with the style.
