someone had asked about the ability to "scan" or "scrub" audio in
Audacity - below is the response from one of the Audacity
developers.

Markus: It's been a popular feature request for some time, but it
seems there's no one working on it at the moment. Personally I'd
love to see this feature implemented, but other things have
priority for me now.
