Hi Matt,
as Andrew has already said, this is unfortunately not possible using
audacity. However, if you use Jaws and the Jaws script for audacity, then
the following functionality is available. This is an excerpt from the
readme for the script:
"You can configure the script to play audio after cursor motion commands.
There are two options of interest in Quick Settings for this. Announce
Position controls whether or not cursor positions are spoken with cursor
motion commands. If Preview Motion is on, a Preview command (Shift+F6 for
the start position and Shift+F7 for the end position) is executed following
the cursor key. This allows you to hear a portion of audio at the start or
end of the selection."
