The only way to avoid audio degradation is to start with a lossless
file format and never reencode it as a lossy file format.

All it will do is increase the file size. Every time one reencodes a
file in a lossy format it degrades the audio so whether you do it at
the same bit rate or a higher bit rate you end up with audio
degradation so it doesn't make sense to make the file larger by
increasing the bit rate. You can do an experiment by opening,
changing, and saving an MP3 over and over and you should start to
hear the difference after about two or three such changes. Or take an
MP3 file saved as 32 bit or lower and save it as 320 bit...
