You may already know this but if you don't, its important.
If you are going to edit an file you intend to save as MP3, don't save it is
MP3 until you have finished editing. If you do some work and intend to do more
but want to save it and work on it later, save it as wave or some other
uncompressed format. Don't save it as MP3 until it is in its final form. You
will lose sound quality if you save it repeatedly as an MP3 file. there is a
program, MP3 Direct Cut, which allows you to edit and save mP3 files as many
times as you want without a loss of quality. Most recording programs don't,
for reasons I won't go into here.

I see that the problem has addressed and it evidently isn't what I thought it
was. You said, I can save the track, but it won't play back in any other
player.
Evidently, from your earlier comment, it wouldn't play in audacity either.
That was ambiguous. If something won't play in Audacity that you have
recorded, it won't play in any other player.
Are you using What you hear, or Stereo Mix or whatever your internal sound card
calls the feature to record streams or are you using loop back? When you plug
in a USB set of headphones or speakers, Windows considers them the default
soundcard until you disconnect them. Unless there is a certain reason you want
to use USB headphones, you would eliminate the problem by using nonUSB
headphones. I don't use USB headphones for that reason. I want whatever
soundcard I have set to do what I want to do whether I am using headphones or
not. And headphones that aren't USB can sound just as good.

If you aren't exporting, but just saving, it isn't compatible with other
players. Files are saved in a format Audacity uses for further work if you
want to do more in a multitrack format. If you don't know how to export,
people will discuss it.

Subject: [audacity4blind] Audacity no longer playing back my track I try to
record.
Hello, Folks,
I am very much a novice with Audacity, and mostly use it for transposing music,
but have recently started recording from Youtube and other sources.
However, with no known changes on my end, I discovered that I cannot play back
what I have recorded. At least, the app seems to have recorded my track but
will not play back.
I can save the track, but it won't play back in any other player.
I'm sorry I can't give better information to help you help me trouble-shoot.
Thanks very much for helping me get back to recording again.
Judy
