Thanks David. I was going to ask about the portable settings option – I knew
once but had forgotten. And the portable settings folder worked – it now shows
the splash screen apart from anything else.
And yes, the reset config is in the Tools Menu. Lazy me did not go exploring
further, as it is just about my bedtime.

Thanks for spotting the mistake in the manual - the reset is on the the Tools
menu. If you run a portable version, then by default it picks up the settings
from any installed version. However, if in the folder containing the portable
version you create a folder with the name portable settings, then it will start
from scratch and place its settings in that folder.

Thanks David. I put the portable copy into a fresh folder. There is no Easy
Reset in the Help Menu. Perhaps because everything is at default settings?
However, it seems to have adopted some settings from the installed copy, as
there was no splash screen when launching.

there's a release candidate available for the next version of Audacity. There
are hardly any new features, but quite a few bugs have been fixed. The new
features are given here:
For Windows users, these are the links:
If anyone finds any problems with the release candidate, please report back to
the list as soon as possible.
