Initially it was because of supply problems; in 2015 Cherry simply
wasn't making enough MX Clear switches to keep up with demand. But once
I built a few boards around Matias Quiet Click, I found that I liked
their feel much more than any non-clicky Cherry switch.
A few factors behind this: Matias switches have a higher actuation point
than Cherry, and unless you manually lube the Cherry switches, they have
a much smoother action too. The addition of a rubber bumper helps a lot
too. Cherry's main non-clicky switches make you choose between
sacrificing tactile feedback (browns) or using an overly-heavy spring
(clears), though now there are Cherry clones which don't have that problem.
I like Matias Clicky more than Cherry MX Blue too, but the difference is
not as dramatic.
What's the lead time if I order a fully assembled keyboard?
Should be just a couple weeks at this point.
