The position is a new professorship and includes the areas of design and
product development within the scope. There is also an opportunity for the new

at ETH Zurich jointly invite applications for the professorship.
The successful candidate is expected to work on challenges of people in low and
middle income countries and to develop solutions to address them. Ideally, she
or he should have a background in engineering/natural sciences and social
sciences/humanities. The candidate’s research focus could either be on a
specific topic (e.g., health, energy, mobility) or on a methodology (e.g.,
user-centred product development, automation, digitalisation) related to the
development, implementation, and evaluation of technologies in developing
countries. The new professor will take a central role in shaping development
engineering research and in teaching development engineering courses, educating
the future leaders of sustainable development. She or he is also expected to
collaborate with other members of ETH Zurich for Development (ETH4D). In
general, at ETH Zurich undergraduate level courses are taught in German or
English and graduate level courses are taught in English.
