[artworks] Odd blend

When performing blends between curved lines I don't always get the
blend that I expect. Can someone explain what might be happening.

The problem blend is on the top, the one expected on the bottom.
If top line-pairs are cloned or duplicated then blend goes awry. If
the bottom ones are cloned/duplicated then blend works as expected.
