I once asked Truax why the X-15 used ammonia, he said they
preferred hydrogen but,as you mentioned Anthony, went to the closest
hydrogen containing analog that was readily available, farm fertilizer,
anhydrous ammonia,They also considered hydrazine but the worlds production
in the 50's was measured in pounds not tons so unavailability shot that
down.

I’m surprised how casual and humored that guy is. Those activities under a
fume hood are begging for trouble.
Aniline can be nasty stuff as it can penetrate skin and enter the blood
stream causing methemoglobinemia and hemolysis. Methylene blue is commonly
used as an antidote. The bottom line is you’ll either be blue and dead or
blue for a few weeks from the treatment.

I tested it with nitric acid once and never messed with it again. I did it
outside. Reactants in separate glass vials taped together and swung
remotely at a concrete blast wall. Poof.

your not one of them.
Fun stuff, builds a proper rocket nozzle but luckily it doesn't generate
enough pressure to have attached flow in the engine bell. You can see the
detached backflow in the bell.

Best not to try this at home; people who think Teflon is "really stable"
tend to underestimate how violent such reactions can be.

If you read the fine print on packages of Teflon-based lubricants, you'll
find they typically advise against use in situations where the stuff might
