Yeah, the most recent info I've run across has been 8 year old, 2013.
Perhaps the micro fan market isn't panning out financially as they have
hoped, after all it is a relatively small market compared to commercial
aviation. They might have priced themselves out of the market too, Even a
small fan jet isn't going to be cheap, maybe 1/4 million bucks? 3D printing
like SLS should help reduce costs, the technology is maturing. GE has made
their new turboshaft engine, the Catalyst, entirely this way. Time will
tell.

There have been attempts at small axial compressors, there was a very nice
looking ~ 2" five stage that promised but didn't deliver.

Is that the exception? Any further details, googling "DGEN microfan"
gets no hits.
James Hill of the GTBA spent several years building a ~ 50mm dia ~
14-stage axial compressor jet engine, but I don't know whether he got it
to work.
