There is a mention in passing of permanganate in alcohol as fuel and
catalyst. I would think such a mix would be hypergolic. How well does it
work?
Tried that in the late nineties with NaMnO4. It does not work because the
permanganate reacts with alcohol. The reaction is not instantaneous. At first a
promising purple solution is formed but after a 10-20 seconds delay time the
purple solution splashes. After, it becomes transparent with a black residue in
it.
