I have a comment and suggestion regarding this issue. First, gas shops
pulling/installing these valves apply a LOT of torque. I’ve seen them use a
hydraulic setup that clamps the cylinder and the valve and seriously cranks
it down. I’m not sure about the torque in foot pounds but it seems way more
than I could do on my own.
If it’s not sealing with threads in good condition, with Teflon
tape/krytox/lots of torque, try XPando.
XPando is a oxygen safe paste sealer that is sold as a dry powder. Mix with
water per the instructors and torque it down. It expands to fill gaps and
make a seal as it dries. It’s likely similar to what was on there before.
