The Falcon 9 is completely constrained by diameter. The diameter
constraint is the reason it's so long and why they're bothering with densitied
propellants.
IIRC the diameter is set to match maximum road-transportable size (this is
probably a constraint on length too).
Any bigger and it may be preferable to have final assembly at the launch site
(e.g. N1) or use barges/ships (Ariane 5, Saturn, STS etc). I don’t recall how
EELV stages get to launch site.
