I build motors and rockets and even though I did Aircraft Avionics when I was
in the Air Force years ago, I don't like trying to piece together electronic
things and program the stuff...I usually end up spending hours troubleshooting
and may get something working. My Cat's Meow would be to buy a fully enclosed
box with terminals or jacks to connect the wires from a pressure transducer or
to the terminals for a load cell. Inside the box would be an amplifier for the
load cell. The output would be a USB and 'Plug and Play' software either
downloadable software or on a disk (yes, my laptops still pay disks) and USB.
Which is why some of us were advocating the DataQ as we’ve been there and think
along the same lines. Yes, you can also get DataQ modules (at more expense &
lower sample rates) that accept mV inputs for thermocouples & strain gauges.
Personally, I’d prefer to have the amp as close to the sensor as possible as
external noise on a 1-20mV line might show up more than on a 0-5V line (to my
perhaps naïve intuition).
