Yeah, I almost didn't post that, in the (wishful) hope that Jordin was just having our mutual friend pull my leg as payback for putting off calling him for so long. I've noticed that before - for the REALLY bad news, some part of us reacts by frantically trying to rationalize that it ain't really so...

I just came across this email from the run-up to the '02 Space Access Conference, when we'd already pinned down what Jordin would talk about and I was trying to persuade him to make some music too:

<me> >>> Oh, and if you happen to
     >>> bring any sort of portable noisemaker, I wouldn't argue...

<Jordin> >> No, that's Xcor you're thinking of :-)

<me> > Tsk.  The sound of a rocket engine is music to my ears!

Probably can't bring a guitar if I'm not coming from home, but I'll see
what I can do.  Especially since I just finished a new song eminently
suited to SA, a parody of Bill Sutton's
"You can build a mainframe from the things you find at home"
It should have been obvious years ago, but somehow never occurred to me
until someone suggested it in passing:

JPL, Ames, and Goddard, Boeing and Hughes and Ball
Lockheed, TRW, they think they  know it all
They make big bucks from satellites, so they don't want it known
That you can build a spacecraft from the things you find at home!
