It does depend on your priorities; these things have a cost (although this
one costs less than you might think if you design for it *from the start*,
rather than trying to retrofit it on top of a preconceived design). You
need to decide whether making a serious effort on software reliability is
worthwhile for a particular project.
Manned moon landings are a bad comparison, since they also wouldn't
survive a reboot of the pilot, which was part of the GNC system.
Actually, the Apollo LM could land itself without the pilot. The one
thing it couldn't do was to pick a good landing spot, so that would have
been a bit iffy -- although all five Surveyors that made it to final
approach survived blind landings...
