Lots of developers I've worked with have the attitude that it's too hard to try
and recover. Their argument is that if they just crash then it will be
caught in the lab and fixed. I'm especially sensitive to it because I was the
one in the lab debugging their junk.

Exactly. If nothing else, sometimes hardware misbehaves, and the software
should do its best to carry on. "Never give up! Never surrender!" :-)
