If Bezos really did want to be completely independent until Blue Origin fully
develops an orbital vehicle, then why are they getting into bed with ULA, and
indirectly the US Government, by agreeing to provide engines to ULA for their
Vulcan launch vehicle?
The ULA Vulcan has only the most distant, tangential connection to the US
government.
According to SpaceX program manager Garrett Reisman, CCDev imposes 1000
separate government requirements on Dragon.
Working with ULA on Vulcan imposes zero government requirements on New Shepard.
Zero is less than 1000.
