Hi
Unfortunately it seems to have formatted the SSd instead.
Ouch, you have my sympathy. That's never a nice experience. In all
honesty, even after formatting hundreds if not 1000+ SSDs and SD cards in
my ARMX6, my heart jumps for a moment every time I run !HForm for just
this kind of reason.
How do I get the ARMX6 working again please?
Here's what I'd do...
1) Firstly, does it boot to a desktop? If so, skip to step 5
2) If not, does it boot to a command line? Do *desktop to get
to the desktop. Skip to 5.
3) If it doesn't get to a command line, try pressing Escape at
power on (while it is looking for boot device). This may get
you to a command prompt or desktop (jump to step 2 if command
line).
4) If still can't start, turn off. Remove lid (usually 4x
screws) and disconnect the data lead for the SSD (the 1cm wide
orange or red flat connector on the drive. Turn on, and
hopefully you'll be able to reach a desktop (see step 1 or 2).
Once at a desktop, try re-connecting the SATA data cable to the
drive - it should pop up on the iconbar.
5) Once in desktop, full recovery tools are on SDFS::1. Click
the SDFS::1 icon on the iconbar, and go to Recovery, and run
!HForm.
6) Make sure to format S (for SCSI) then probably 0 for the main
drive. Accept all the default options. Do not soak-test or
check for errors. Make sure it is Bootable when prompted.
7) Once formatted, look again in SDFS::1.$.Recovery - the Disk
Image folder should have a complete disk image. If you followed
the SP12 instructions, this should be up-to-date(ish). Copy
that to your newly formatted main drive.
8) If you had previously upgraded to OS16a, please re-run the
upgrader - the upgrade process installed a few updates to
!Internet which are needed with the latest OS ROM, and post-date
SP12. In hindsight, I recommend keeping a copy of the latest
!OSupgrade in SDFS::1.$.Recovery in future as it can be handy.
9) Our recommendation is to store backups on SDFS::0 SD drive,
and *most* ARMX6s sold have backup drives fitted there. If you
have been using this, you *should* have a more recent backup on
SDFS::0 and can use that in preference, or to update further
with your data.
If not, you have external backups, right? (gentle smile). If
not, I'd like to suggest you (in the general sense) call me on
01925 755043 to discuss backup solutions - they're a necessary
evil!
10) If your backups are on NAS, rather than SDFS or USB, then
you'll need to reboot and make sure you've got a network
connection. You should then be able to use Omni or LM98 to
connect to your NAS. Note - keep copy of LM98 on your SDFS
drive as well :)
When you reboot, you *should* be all set. You may have to reconfig things
to taste, and maybe re-install a few bits of software, but you should have
a basically working system.
Hope this helps,
Andrew
