At last I have got round to updating our ARMX6 to version 5.27 (30 Jun 20)
and have found only one defect, the advantages are less obvious.
The defect is that the versions of 'link' and 'objasm' which I have been
using since Iyonix days now run at least a factor of 10 slower than on the
previous release of the ARMX6 system.

Is the development environment on the local disc, or on a network drive?
That could affect link, bit not objasm.

ARM Linker Version 5.27 [07 Oct 2002]
ARM AOF Macro Assembler 3.27 (Acorn Computers Ltd) [30 Jul 2001]

I have the related software, a recent version of the Fortran compiler:

Norcroft RISC OS ARM Fortran vsn 5.80 (5.80.1.6) [30 Jan 2020]
(lent to me by Robert of ROOL)

which does not suffer this problem.

If a later version doesn't do it, that rules out anything else slowing down the machine, such as a couple of rabid null polling apps which may lower the performance of taskwindows in which link and objasm run.

The ARMx6 doesn't have the alignment exceptions setting, so that shouldn't affect things.

Cheers
