Hi folks,
I've just managed to reproduce the "auto-networking doesn't seem to do
anything" bug that several people have referenced, and tracked it down.
The following should fix it for everyone right now, but I intend to
produce a formal !PineTools update tomorrow with the bug fixed.
Essentially, the program is (unnecessarily) checking for a SetUpNet file
in PreDesk folder before enabling DHCP. This isn't needed in this
version, and just muddies the water.
Solution:
Load !Edit
Press menu over !Edit on iconbar click: Create -> New Obey File
Shift double click on !Boot on main drive
Go to Choices folder, then Boot folder, then PreDesk folder
Save your (empty) !Edit file as "SetUpNet" into the PreDesk
folder
AutoUSBnet program should now work as expected (ie. detect presence of a
network interface/cable and then auto-configure a network a connection).
I would like to sincerely apologise to everyone for the presence of this
bug, as I know it has caused unnecessary hassle for several of you when
trying to set up wifi adapters etc. My only defence is that in all cases,
my own ARMbook had a SetUpNet file, so I simply never saw the program
fail, and therefore didn't know that it was checking for SetUpNet.
Ignorance, however, is no defence!
Hopefully this is of some help, and I look forward to issuing a proper fix
ASAP, but I will take my time and test as thoroughly as I can to ensure
there are no unexpected side effects.
Thanks,
Andrew
