Sure, if you can afford it. Or if the services are so critical that you can't
afford not to.
But in the real world? More often than not, neither apply.
For example, primary and secondary DNS servers "must" "always" be served by
different machines on different netblocks, preferably in different physical
locations serviced by different backbone providers. In reality? They're often
the same CPU process listening on two adjacent IP addresses on the same NIC.
And, you know what?
That's just fine.
Because we're not Google, and, if a nuclear bomb takes out our primary DNS
servers, none of us are going to give a damn if the secondary survives or not.
...of couse...if you were making an offer to take responsibility for services,
I'm sure Graeme would be interested in continuing the conversation....
