If I am reading the ICC specifications correctly, in both v.2 and v.4 a* and b* 
are encoded in the range 127 .. -128. So an ICC profile can't even store that 
color.

It will need to be gamut mapped (preferably) or will be clipped (changing the 
hue) to bring it into the range of the encoding.
