[argyllcms] Is the "refine" necessary for non-proofing purposes?

Is there a way to use refine utility for other then proofing objectives? For
example, to apply more patches from a new chart to existing .ti3 data for new
profile? Or in such case the simple ti3 merging is appropriate?
