[argyllcms] How to improve rendering of dark area in prints?

Dear Graeme and All, I have been using Argyll for quite a while (thanks for this wonderful toolset!), even though I do not post here often.

A few months ago, I have purchased a new printer (Epson SC-P700) and I have created color profiles for all the papers that I use. With this printer in particular, I find it non trivial to deal with dark areas in some color prints. I feel like profiles are not describing well enough the behavior of the printer+paper in these areas, causing halos and other artifacts in the transitions to black. In many cases, especially with some matte papers (e.g., Canson Rag Photographique), I cannot see these artifacts neither in proof mode nor in the image converted to the paper profile (visualized by assigning the profile to it), but I see them in the prints.

Therefore, my question is: is there any way to improve the profiles in specific areas of the colorspace? Ideally, I would like to add a number of patches specifically aimed at near black colors... Would that make sense?

Actually I am using the full calibration+profiling flow, even though the SCP-P700 is an sRGB printer and, thus, it is not possible to set ink limits.

Best regards,
   Alberto
