I think I know your view on this, but this kind of bug would almost
certainly be caught if you allowed us to easily do daily tests on the
development code where we could bisect for the problems. You could
allow this by using svn or git and you'd get near-instant feedback,
probably with easy-to-apply patches. It's a shame having to skip
versions because of release-fatal bugs that could have been caught
with more testing.
