Some other people have had some trouble. I occasionally see the
odd string of characters in their messages on an otherwise empty
line.
I seem to be the only one that has the problem of lines and
partial lines disappearing and reappearing, often in the wrong
place.

Where is the internal editor? I believe it is located somewhere
in INSIGHT.EXE.
I have now used two recent upgrades of INSIGHT.EXE and I'm still
having the trouble occasionally, so I don't think it is a
corrupted file. The chances that separate downloads of different
updated versions would all be corrupted in the same way either in
the download or after they arrive here are very very remote.
I appreciate that you are trying to help, but really I would
prefer to hear from people who have had the problem.
Advice and comments from people who have never seen the fault is
usually quite useless.
