Subject: AIAA Looking For Apollo Era Panel Discussion Member
Gentlemen…might you be able to send this to your “alumni/retiree” lists…
I volunteered to help David Dress, the Acting Deputy Director for the Space
Technology and Exploration Directorate at Langley, find an Apollo era person
for a panel discussion at the AIAA Space Conference in Orlando, September
12-14, 2017. The panel subject will be, “Dealing with Complex Systems: How the
Pendulum Has Swung from Apollo through Today”. This from David – “The panel
will look at how we have addressed the development and implementation of
complex systems from the Apollo era through the present in the context of
decision making, risk posture, systems engineering techniques, etc.”
So far confirmed panel members are Bill Gerstenmaier, Associate Administrator
for Human Exploration and Operations; Mike Ryschkewitsch, Head, Space
Exploration Sector at John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab; and Richard Cook, Mars
Science Laboratory (Curiosity Rover) Deputy Program Manager. David is also
working on one or two Commercial Space folks to participate as well.
As the panel moderator, David expects it to be more of a discussion, not many
or no charts, that will include audience participation through Q&A.
Airline and hotel accommodations will be paid for by the AIAA.
Interested folks should contact David directly.
