Hey all,

Just wanted to reach out, as AGSA is currently working with the Sociology
Graduate Student Association to plan a potential roundtable for late March
or Early April.

We are currently working to plan the event, and are currently trying to
determine the level of interest in this event. If you are interested in
participating, attending, or helping with the event, please fill out this
form
<https://forms.office.com/Pages/DesignPageV2.aspx?subpage=design&FormId=cZYxzedSaEqvqfz4-J8J6jl5aHsNHKxNuLw83sp9EjhUNFI2T0VLRlZWREpGNjEzVVlIWjlST1U3Uy4u&Token=6ae8999375834746bfd129dd936e5b75>
by March 15th. Both those interested in potentially participating AND/OR
attending are invited to complete this form. We will be sending out a
separate form specifically for participants separately.

The title of this roundtable and a description of the event follow;

Title: "Missing" in Social Science Research: Methodological and Theoretical
Approaches to Data Absence

Description: The absence of empirical data is common in social science
studies where both quantitative and qualitative methods incorporate various
approaches to address them. But what if most accounts for a particular
historical period have been missing due to wars, natural disasters, or
consistent colonial repression? How would scholars engage with a subject
that has essentially no reliable data? Most importantly, under what
condition can scholars develop theories when their evidence is incomplete
because of the nature of the case? This workshop session invites students
with various social science backgrounds, particularly in post-colonial,
indigenous studies, or studies in social changes, to address the "missing"
in research. It seeks to provide a platform for scholars who address
empirically troublesome cases to exchange experiences and insights on the
absence of empirical narratives.

Have a great start to your week everyone!

Best,

AGSA & Sociology
