Hey all,
As you know, Thursday @ 7pm is the general meeting ( here's the zoom
link<https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89394803480?pwd=R2FjaSszUWdwYlpFaC9rU2krZ3BQQT09>)
where AGSA elects a new President and VP Finance. The election runs from 31
March - 3 April with online voting.
Here's the problem: we don't yet have anyone running for VP finance
We need one of you to be AGSA's new VP Finance, otherwise we lose access to
PGSS funding and lose our representation in a whole bunch of areas so...
~*~PLEASE RUN FOR VP FINANCE~*~
The VP Finance handles the money stuff: puts together an operating budget for
approval at the General Meetings; reimburses members for AGSA-related expenses;
and disburses funds for AGSA-approved expenses.
The position starts in September, so for now all you need to do is email
meghan.mcgill@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx to say that you're running.
**AGSA has to have a President and VP Finance to exist as a functioning grad
student association from PGSS's perspective (otherwise no money, no
representation, zip). So unless one or more of you lovely people runs for VP
finance:
* we lose access to funds via PGSLF and events funds through PGSS (remember
the nice budget with all the money you can use for your
projects<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wJvuKrihDRw2xGQfD5C22qVffpfQBfrA3KBcU4ukyds/edit?usp=sharing>?
that money exists because we have a VP finance)
* we lose our seat in a lot of important spaces like the faculty meetings,
PGSS, AGSEM
* we lose an important opportunity to transfer a lot of institutional
knowledge that this exec has stitched together
* it's harder to facilitate grad student input in things like hiring if
there isn't any functional AGSA
More reasons to be our next VP finance:
* we need you to do it
* we'll love you for it
* our constitution requires it
* it's a very fun job where you sign cheques and allocate money to cool
projects
* you get to collaborate with your peers, inc. the other AGSA execs, all of
whom are wonderful people
* the time commitment is way less than you'd think (general meetings + a
couple exec meetings each year + making it rain reimbursement cheques and
budgeting to fund student projects)
Student government is way better when everyone pitches in so that we can all
have fun and funding and representation and good governance. Please run!
We are also looking for new AGSEM and PGSS reps come September (see full list
of all exec positions below) and as always I strongly strongly encourage you to
run
