Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church I am learning much by our reflections on the early formative period of the church. Thank you for sharing your insights and discoveries with us. It is evident already that trying to explain the uniqueness of Jesus will be a tremendous challenge for humans. Following the crucifixion of Jesus, something monumental happened, causing those who knew and followed Jesus to recognize that this man was more than ordinary. They searched for a category into which Jesus would fit. They concluded that he was the promised messiah-the one who could be trusted to guide them into a relationship with God and each other that would honor what the creator has intended; a relationship that would position them for eternal contentment and peace. As you have noticed, we struggle with the same issues that have occupied the thoughts and pursuits of many others. Let us observe how these initial efforts served to promote the message of Jesus in the periods of history that followed.
