I got this note from my friend in Hawaii and thought it was worth sharing
with you. I think that it is such a good perspective on mindset in a really
horrible time.
Aloha,
Today something odd happened. Throughout Hawai'i, people were praying
together, whether they knew it or not. Worried, terrified, the lot of
frightening emotions. But above that, Brothers and Sisters, remember the
love. The countless texts sent to loved ones, the reflection of what is
truly important in your life when faced with the unthinkable. The endless
prayers.
Rather than shame and blame the false alarm. Let us celebrate it. We are
still here. No day is guaranteed. We have the choice everyday to live a
life of peace, love, and compassion.
Jesus taught to love our enemies, the Buddha as well. Love is what would
have spread if catastrophe occurred. We know through the spirit of Love and
Aloha, that we would have cared for those who could. Let Love prevail still.
Petty squables silenced by mortality. Let us question why we are so afraid.
Let us love those who made the blessed mistake and love those who are
capable of the opposite.
God provides spaces of understanding. Before we go back to "life as usual",
which because of our monkey minds may not even be possible in state of
heightened paranoia, let us remember our frailty, our vulnerability. Above
all let us remember LOVE.
May love guide you in all your choices and please keep the spirit of
goodwill and gratitude in your hearts. No shame, no blame, or our new
refrain we keep singing: We survived!
Blessed is this day and all days. We are so lucky to share Hawai'i with one
another. Let us love her and her people, animals, and plants fully. All
gifts, none to be taken for granted.
