Here's a note from Michael Shirk about volunteering at the Front Steps
Homeless Shelter:
*Did you know you can sign-up to serve at the Front Steps Homeless Shelter
all on-your-own, that is, wholly apart from Austin Mennonite Church?*
*We have new volunteer orientations scheduled for Jan/Feb/Mar. These will
be the only ones offered until May 2019. If are curious about what happens
here, or have served dinner with AMC but want to get more involved,
complete an application on the website and Natalie Freeburg (the volunteer
Coordinator and, IMHO, a Saint) will touch base about attending
orientation. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old, but youth age
13-17 can complete an application (and one parent needs to complete an
application) and then they can attend an orientation and at least learn
about what happens here and I can meet with them about how they can help.*
*There are so many vital ways to serve our brothers and sisters - from
helping with computers so guests can keep in touch with families or apply
for jobs, to handing out soap and towels and checking mail to see if
Section 8 housing has been approved or MAP eligibility determined, very
significant matters.*
