Hi AMCers

the word out about how to properly recycle plastic bags.
see the notice below. Feel free to bring your bags and styrofoam to church this
Sunday and we will properly recycle them.
Thanks, Dolly (for the newly forming Creation Cares Committee)
SPECIAL PLASTIC BAG AND STYROFOAM COLLECTION FOR RECYCLING THIS WEEKEND IN
WINDSOR PARK.
The Windsor Park Neighborhood Association has a strong commitment to doing
our part to combat Climate Change as evidenced by our climate change
resolution, carbon use calculator, Climate Conversation Education sessions
and the Zero Waste Tips in Window on Windsor. Austin Mennonite Church shares
that commitment.
To celebrate America Recycles Day, Austin is focusing on APPROPIATE RECYCLING
OF PLASTIC BAGS (called plastic film by Austin Resource Recovery) by having a
special plastic bag and styrofoam collection this weekend.
The point is to bring attention to the importance of NOT putting plastic bags
in the blue recycling bins. Don’t put plastic bags in your blue bin for
recycling or use large plastiic bags to bag your recycling. They mess up the
recycling sorting machines. Bags can always be taken to grocery stores like
HEB and put in the containers in the front of the store.
To highlight proper recycling of plastic bags, this weekend there will be a
special collection of clean stretchy plastic bags and clean styrofoam.
Volunteers will be in front of Austin Mennonite Church, 5801 Westminister
(next to the library) Saturday 11/20 2-4pm and Sunday 11/21 2-4pm to accept
your clean bags and styrofoam and take them to ARR.
Bags that can be recycled at grocery stores or this weekend at Austin
Mennonite church:
•Retail, carryout, produce, newspaper, bread, and dry cleaning bags (clean,
dry and free of receipts and clothes hangers)
•Zip-top food storage bags (clean and dry)
•Plastic shipping envelopes (remove labels), bubble wrap and air pillows
(deflate)
•Product wrap on cases of water/soda bottles, paper towel rolls, napkin
packages, disposable cups, bathroom tissue, diapers, and female sanitary
products
•Furniture and electronic wrap
